Research into disability and wellbeing in London
Real is a Disabled People’s Organisation based in Tower Hamlets that is carrying out research into D/deaf and Disabled people’s quality of life across London using a research tool called the ‘Personal Outcomes Scale’. This explores what is important to you in different areas of your life, for example your social inclusion, health, and happiness. Over the two-year project, Real will interview 1000 people. This research will produce evidence about what is important for D/deaf and Disabled people’s quality of life, allowing us to influence local services and campaign for change.
You can take part if you:
- Live in London
- Identify as D/deaf or Disabled, or have a long-term health condition (including mental health, neurodiversity and chronic illnesses)
- Are aged 18 or over
Expected commitment:
Real will interview you and talk about your life, what is working well and what you’d like to change. They can complete the interviews virtually, over the phone or in person. You can also nominate someone close to you to do the interview on your behalf. Afterwards, they will provide you with the report about your quality of life which you can use as evidence to challenge professionals and services about decisions in your life. For example, you could show it to your social worker as part of your social care review.
Deadline: ongoing
Real will ask about your access needs and make any adjustments you need for the interview. This includes if you need to do the interview in another language. The time and location are totally up to you. All of their researchers have their own lived experience of disability, so you can be confident that the interview will be a safe space.
