Participants wanted for a study exploring lived experiences leading up to suicide attempts in adults across the UK
The Department of Psychological Sciences and Health at the University of Strathclyde is looking for participants for a qualitative research study exploring lived experiences leading up to suicide attempts. The study is being conducted by Hardik Ahuja, a PhD researcher at the University of Strathclyde, under the supervision of experienced academic researchers in suicide and mental health research. The study aims to understand better how people make sense of the experiences, thoughts, feelings, and events that occurred before a suicide attempt. By listening to people’s lived experiences, the research aims to improve understanding, support, and suicide prevention efforts in the future. The study has received ethical approval from the University of Strathclyde.
Who they are looking for:
- People aged 17 years or older
- Are currently based in the UK
- Have experienced a suicide attempt within the last 12 months
- Feel comfortable speaking in English about their experiences
Expected commitment from participants:
- Participants will be invited to take part in a one-to-one interview lasting approximately 45 to 90 minutes
- Interviews will take place online via Microsoft Teams or in person at the University of Strathclyde at a time convenient for the participant
- Participants will be asked questions about their experiences leading up to their suicide attempt and how they understood and experienced that period of time
Closing date to apply: Ongoing
The researchers aim to make participation as accessible and flexible as possible. Interviews will be arranged at times convenient for participants and conducted remotely to reduce travel barriers.
Participants are welcome to take breaks during the interview, skip questions they do not wish to answer, or stop participation at any time without giving a reason.
Information sheets and study materials can be provided electronically in accessible formats where possible. The researchers are also happy to discuss individual access needs or adjustments before participation. Support resources and helpline information will be provided to all participants.
