Shape an upcoming study on a new vaginal treatment for miscarriage prevention

Calla Lily Clinical Care is a UK-based women’s health company developing a new way to deliver vaginal progesterone – a hormone treatment used to help prevent miscarriage.

They are preparing for a small trial to test their device, called Callavid, to see if it safely delivers progesterone into the bloodstream, and how it compares to the current option (Cyclogest pessaries). They will also ask women how easy and comfortable each method is to use. This early trial will help them design a larger study in the future and apply for approval to make the device available in the UK.

Miscarriage affects many women both physically and emotionally. Every year, about 150,000 women in the UK are advised to use vaginal progesterone to lower their risk – but current products can leak or feel uncomfortable. They are working to create an option that’s easier and more pleasant to use.

They would like to involve women who have experience using vaginal progesterone (like Cyclogest) or who might be prescribed it in the future trying to get pregnant. Your insights will help them:

  • Finalise their device design
  • Make sure the study is comfortable and acceptable for participants
  • Improve the materials they give to patients (like leaflets and videos)
  • Decide what questions to ask patients during the study
  • Understand and explain the study results in a clear, useful way

Expected commitment: Around 2 hours per month, with a chance to do a little more as the trial gets closer (starting late 2025).

They are committed to making sure everyone feels welcome to take part.

  • Meetings are held online and scheduled to suit participants where possible
  • They welcome people with different experiences, backgrounds, and access needs
  • They can provide materials in different formats (e.g. large print, easy read)
  • If you have any support needs (e.g. help using Zoom, language needs, childcare costs), they are happy to discuss how they can help
  • There will be an involvement payment of £25 per hour

Closing date to apply: 15 June 2025
