Share your experience of moving from children’s to teenage and young adult (TYA) services for cancer treatment
About the research
Researchers at Cardiff University are looking to understand what it is like for young people to move from children’s cancer services to teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer services.
They want to learn about the challenges people experience when moving between services, as well as what helps make the process easier.
By understanding these experiences, the researchers hope to identify ways to improve the support provided to young people and their families going through a similar transition.
Who can take part?
The researchers would like to speak to young people who have experienced this move, as well as their parents or guardians.
To take part, participants must be either:
- A young person who has received care from both children’s cancer services and teenage and young adult cancer services, and whose care was transferred between these services within the past two years.
- A parent or guardian of a young person who has received care from both services, with the transfer taking place within the past two years.
What’s involved?
Taking part involves two online conversations with a researcher via Microsoft Teams:
- First conversation (approximately 10 minutes): The researcher will ask for some brief information about the young person’s condition, treatment and where their care took place.
- Second conversation (approximately 60 minutes): The researcher will explore experiences of moving between children’s and TYA cancer services, including what went well, any difficulties and what could have been done differently.
Accessibility and inclusion
The researchers aim to make participation as comfortable and accessible as possible.
- Information about the research will be provided in an age-appropriate format.
- Meetings will take place online, at a date and time convenient for participants.
- Participants can ask for questions to be reworded if anything is unclear.
- Participants can take a break or end a meeting at any time, without giving a reason.
Closing date
31 December 2026.
